Paint It Black Is the Right Mentality to Have During This Exhibition and Juried Art Competition
Join us at the Sheldon Museum of Art for our latest exhibit, In Conversation: Black!
Showcasing objects that are dominated by the color black, this exhibition is an investigation into the theme of darkness. Its monochromatic paintings, photographs, prints, and sculptures invite the viewer to contemplate detail concealed in shadow and revealed in the light. These direct confrontations with darkness provide the viewer with a heightened awareness of each object’s essence.
Works by Roy DeCarava, John Divola, Adolph Gottlieb, Michelle Grabner, Martin Puryear, and Richard Serra are included. Sheldon Museum of Art supports the creative work of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln undergraduate and graduate students across disciplines.
In conjunction with the exhibition, In Conversation: Black, Sheldon is hosting The Convo Project: a juried student competition seeking original creative projects inspired by the color black. Submissions may take the form of any media. Jurors will review all submissions and award the first prize of $1,000 and the second prize of $500. In Conversation: Black will be on display until December 31, 2019.
Admission to the Sheldon Museum of Art is free.
While we provide plenty of on-site entertainment at Fairways at Lincoln Apartments in Lincoln, Nebraska, we believe that having fun within your larger community is equally as important. Do just that during this event on Saturday!
