Almost 150 archeological and historic artifacts connect visitors to the stories of Nebraskans both notable and notorious. From prehistory to the present, from stone tools to DVDs, the Nebraska State Historical Society keeps all manner of objects. Take a glimpse into these vast holdings at the Nebraska History Museum’s display Nebraska Unwrapped: Selections from the Collections on Saturday, December 29th.
Why keep so many artifacts? For the Nebraska State Historical Society, it’s simple. The pieces reveal our challenges and accomplishments, our heritages and cultures. They help chart both the paths taken and forsaken by the unique and distinctive peoples of Nebraska.
At Nebraska Unwrapped, you’ll be able to see artifacts dated before Nebraska’s statehood was granted, discover products that were invented and created in Nebraska, and learn more about the stories that have shaped the culture and people of our state.
History Nebraska was founded in 1878 as the Nebraska State Historical Society by citizens who recognized that Nebraska was going through great changes and sought to record the stories of both indigenous and immigrant peoples. It was designated a state institution and began receiving funds from the legislature in 1883. Legislation in 1994 changed History Nebraska from a state institution to a state agency.
This exhibit promises to be a treat for both long-term residents and newcomers to the state! Admission is free for all. Patrons are encouraged to utilize public transportation or downtown parking areas.
